Why do people tend to hate Feminism?

I am often told with a mocking tone "You seem to turn into a feminist!" I have always replied "Being born as a feminine, Feminism is actually in me. What is wrong there in turning into a feminist?"

You know it may sound weird but many people actually don't know what Feminism actually is! and start hating it. I believe bringing the actual meaning might lessen the hatred of atleast some people.

So what Feminism is?

• By dictionary it is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of sexes.
• Theoretically it is political, social and economic equality of both the genders.
• By belief  that men and women should have equal rights.

So in these above meanings did you find anything wrong enough to be hated? Let me tell you why most people hate the term Feminism itself and many even treat it as an illness! Here are some beliefs:

• Feminism is associated with strong, forceful and angry women and our society has a notion that women should be kind and mild not forceful.
• Many people do fear that if feminism overpowers patriachy then men will eventually loose-power, control, impact, authority and economic liabilities.
• Many people believe Feminist actually want to control the world and substitute men putting them down.
• Many people are scared about feminist breaking the old traditions and have a superstitious belief that it may end in a fatal result.
• Many people also believe feminism will bring much changes in relationships, marriage, society, culture, power, authority, business, job ,economy and every state of life. After all the society still believes it is the duty of women to adjust and bear!

Being a human with a brain it is very obvious that each and every human being(be it a man, woman or a transgender) should have equal rights to live life and pursue career irrespective of our genders. Isn't it obvious anybody will want a free environment to breath and live? Then where are Feminist going wrong? We are standing up for our rights, not interfering into your domains. And there is nothing wrong in standing up for oneself !

If you are lucky enough to be born as male and think that why should I support feminism and harm my social status then let me tell you:

Feminism doesn't only liberate women, it also liberates men by breaking down the standards which society has put in place for both men and women. Men are taught in this society to be macho, emotionless leaders, and to never show weakness, such as being sad and crying as a result of that sadness and pain. These socially constructed rules cause men to be socially confined. Feminism says that it's alright for men to show weakness, be followers, and to show their emotions and lead a stress less life.

Feminism not only believe in equality between only men and women but actually stands up for equality among class, race, caste and sexual orientation.

If you are still finding the Feminism movement wrong then lets think if the society would have been female dominating instead of male what your notion would have been? Would you stay back and abide by the society norms and never stand for you rights? Rest I am leaving it for you to decide!
